It’s okay to face plant

Come along with me for a moment if only to be entertained by those of us that embrace a good face plant…

This morning during a very strenuous hot yoga flow class the instructor said as we made our valiant attempts at side crow, “Good, it’s okay to face plant.” “Accept it.” She went on to enlighten us with the words, “This can happen not just on the mat, right, but off the mat?”

OH WOW! This seriously hit home for me and now I’m dragging you into my personal journey. Read this very slowly…”It’s okay to face plant.” If you look at anything in your life that you have really wanted, it’s taken lots of hard work right? Physical goals such as losing weight, eating right, running a marathon, learning a new strength pose, all take a bumpy road of face plants! Relationships take cultivating with time & effort and there will inevitably be hurdles to jump and you just might face plant. Learning an instrument takes hours on end of practice. And there in the beginning it’s all down right HARD.

Ben just started taking piano lessons this year and he said to me one day, ” I just want to play a song.” I had to remind him, he can’t play the song until he learns the notes. Oh the notes. The painful learning process. The face plants. Yep, it’s all a part of getting to the goal and being that much more amazed at how far you’ve come. Not in spite of the face plants, but get this…BECAUSE of them. Face planting just means you are giving your goal your ALL. When you go all out, you will face plant. Again and again and again. And then one day, your effort will pay off. And when you get that strength pose, when you play that song, when you lose that weight, you will remember the face plants and it will make that day all the more sweeter.

Okay, now on to the fun pictures to remind you why all the face planting is worth the trouble. My dad, my hero. He knows the meaning of face plants. I’m sure he had his fair share getting to where he is today. Yet, one thing my dad stands for is giving it your all. Day in, day out. Making choices that get you closer to your goal.

And just so we are clear…it really helps to spend A LOT of time in child’s pose asking for the strength it takes to do the HARD work from the One who makes us NEW!
