NEW LIFE!!

Dear Benjamin,

Your new life didn’t start today because that happened October 30th, 2016 when you sat in service and prayed a prayer accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. But, today signifies to the world you belong to Christ and you want to live your days for Him. In all the things you will ever accomplish here on earth, nothing will be more important than your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Your Dad and I are so very proud of you and thankful that God pursued your heart with His loving kindness. Welcome to the family.

Today as we stand on stage to watch you be washed in the water, to symbolize this new life you have taken on, I want you to know the words I could speak out loud for the tears of great joy I knew would overwhelm me. You have always been wanted. We had moved to South Carolina with full intentions of having you and set your room up before you were ever conceived. We knew God’s plan for our family and we were sure of His faithfulness. We even named you, Benjamin, before we knew if you were a boy or a girl! The day I told your Dad I was pregnant with you I had this verse on the box, “Every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of Heavenly Lights” James 1:17. You have been such a sweet gift to this family and you bring the most precious wildly contagious joy to our world. I am forever thankful for you.

Remember today and always that this day is not about what you have done, but what you could not do. What only He could. This is the only love story that will never fail you. Follow Him all the days of your life. These days will not be marked without struggle, but when those valleys come please don’t forget who carries you. There will be days it seems too dark to bear, but never forget He will not forsake you. He will never leave you. When you have made more mistakes than you can fathom, remember He sees His Son when He looks at you. You are covered in the blood of Jesus. Though this world will fail you a thousand upon a thousand times, He NEVER will. It is okay to wrestle with God. It is okay to question and doubt and even scream when it seems too much for your human heart because He is bigger than all of it and He can handle your hurt. Bring it all to the table.

There will be days that you see His glory so bright you will not be able to breathe. It will literally take your breath away. Today is one of those days for me. Watching you profess your faith is one of those moutain top experiences that will always remind me of His faithfulness. I’ve prayed for this day. You will see His fingerprints in your life if you only look. He is a jealous God. He will pursue you all the days of your life. He wants a relationship with you. You need only draw near to feel His presence. There will be days it feels like silence, but I promise you I have lived long enough to know He is working out good for all the days of your life. Lean not on your own understanding and remember His ways are higher. You may not have all your questions answered, but He is still good and He is still God.

I promise you this, better is one day in His court than thousands elsewhere. God bless you sweet little man!
