Happy 16th Birthday, Georgia!

My sweetest Georgia,

Each year I’m taken back by the way you live out your faith. You have grown so much this year spiritually and I could not be more grateful for how you seek Him in all you do. You are an uncommon woman. You have set yourself to look at everything you do under the umbrella of whether it edifies others and glorifies God. You challenge me in my walk and it is a beautiful thing. Thank you!

Somehow we’ve bypassed the typical mom-teenage daughter phase and I don’t take it for granted that we are crazy close. You just have so much wisdom and grace.

This was a daunting year for me watching you get behind the wheel. Not sure how I made it this long believing I had even some control, but this season reminded me—I’ve never been in control. You have always been HIS. As I take every thought captive, holding it up to the truth that you are His, knowing He is trustworthy. He loves you and His plan is perfect. It’s the never ending, “I believe. Help me overcome my unbelief.” Thank goodness for His mercy & grace in all my shortcomings.

Your determination and quiet confidence is still ever present. I will never forget having you wake up one Saturday and declaring, “I’m going to get a job today!” and you went out and did just that! Your destined for such greatness and I couldn’t be more thankful to have a front row seat to all you do in His name.

Your relationship with your Daddy brings me so much joy. I love watching the way you banter back and forth. I’m so glad you got his sense of humor and fearless spirit. I’m also thankful you have someone to ride roller coasters and go ziplining with since I am not the adrenaline junkie of the family. I’ll sit on your bed for hours talking about God and spend weekends scrapbooking by your side…moments I will always cherish.

As the next two years close in on college, I want you to know I could not be more proud of you. I promise I will always be a soft place for you to land as you start to navigate new territory.

I love you, girlie.

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
